BEIRUT, November 1. /TASS/. Syria’s special services have exposed a terrorist plot against an oil refinery in the city of Homs.

"Syrian intelligence agencies timely tracked the movements of a terrorist cell, cordoned off the area and detained the militants just before they could carry out an act of sabotage," the main general intelligence department under the Syrian transitional government’s interior ministry said in a statement cited by the SANA agency.

According to the statement, suicide vests, makeshift explosive devices, electronic equipment for remote detonation, and detailed maps of the facility were seized from the detainees. There were no casualties among security officers.

The oil refinery in Homs, along with the oil refining complex at the port of Baniyas on the Mediterranean coast, plays a key role in supplying petroleum products to the local market.

According to SANA, an operation against an Islamic State (terrorist organization outlawed in Russia) cell, which had previously attacked military and civilians facilities, was conducted on Sunday in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor governorate. Several militants were neutralized.
