Iran to respond to any threat regardless of geographical restrictions — supreme leader
Mojtaba Khamenei described combat readiness for a strong response to enemies as a condition stipulating "maximum deterrence"
TEHRAN, October 31. /TASS/. Iranian Armed Forces must react to any threat posed by the enemy with an immediate and effective response regardless of geographical restrictions, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei stated on Saturday.
"The supreme leader of the revolution… has decreed that any type of threats must be encountered met with an immediate and effective response, regardless of geographical restrictions," the Iranian Supreme Leader’s press office said in a statement at a meeting with high-ranking military commanders of the Iranian Armed Forces.
According to the statement, Khamenei described combat readiness for a strong response to enemies as a condition stipulating "maximum deterrence."
The military commanders, in turn, reported on the readiness of the country’s armed forces along the coast of the Persian Gulf, in the areas of the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman, and along the borders, as well as on the multiple increase in the production of ammunition and reconnaissance, support and combat equipment.
The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
However, in the early morning hours of July 8, the US resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached on the Strait of Hormuz.
Nearly 25% of global oil trade and about 20% of the liquefied natural gas trade are transported through the strait. The US administration then effectively indicated that it would stop using large-scale military force against Iran and instead seek to economically strangle the country through sanctions.
