The European Commission’s goal in the discussion among European Union countries on possible talks with Russia is not to achieve a result that would help end the conflict in Ukraine, but to keep the process under its control and prevent "cracks" from emerging in European unity, a diplomatic source in Brussels told TASS.

"The European Commission’s actions in the European debate on possible talks with Russia are not aimed at seeking a result that would help end the conflict in Ukraine. They are aimed solely at maintaining control over any attempts to negotiate in order to prevent cracks in European unity on issues related to confronting Russia and supporting Ukraine," the source said.
