THE HAGUE, October 27. /TASS/. The International Criminal Court (ICC) will elect a new prosecutor to replace recently resigned Karim Khan in December 2027, the Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties said.

It noted that in February, after the end of the application process, information about all candidates will be posted on the assembly's website. Their portfolio will be evaluated by the Advisory Committee on Nominations of Judges, as well as the Independent Oversight Mechanism, a subsidiary body of the court that verifies compliance with its standards. At the same time, the Assembly admits that the terms of the prosecutor's election may be changed if "the process requires."

On July 24, President of the Assembly of States Parties, Ms. Paivi Kaukoranta said that the supervisory authority had removed Khan from office in connection with allegations of sexual harassment with 82 out of 125 ICC countries voting for his dismissal.
