French presidential candidate labels Ukraine ‘dictatorship’ after extension of martial law
Florian Philippot argued that all assistance to Kiev should be stopped immediately
PARIS, October 27. /TASS/. The leader of France’s The Patriots party, Florian Philippot, has denounced Ukraine as a "dictatorship" following the Verkhovna Rada’s decision to extend martial law, which, among other restrictions, bars the holding of elections.
"It’s a disgrace. Yet we continue to support, arm, and fund this vile dictatorship," Philippot, a French presidential candidate, wrote on X in response to the Ukrainian parliament’s decision.
He argued that all assistance to Kiev should be stopped immediately.
"Not another euro, not a single piece of weaponry for Ukraine," he stressed.
Martial law and general mobilization were introduced in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and have been extended repeatedly since then. Elections at the parliamentary, presidential, and local levels have not been held under martial law. Vladimir Zelensky’s five-year presidential term officially expired on May 20, 2024, but he has remained in office under the wartime legal framework.
