Witkoff angrily demanded that Budanov stop strikes on Russian oil refineries — newspaper
According to the newspaper, the discussion led to a confrontation between Witkoff and Budanov
PARIS, October 27. /TASS/. US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff reportedly demanded, with apparent irritation, that Kirill Budanov, head of Vladimir Zelensky’s office [listed by Russia as a terrorist and extremist], halt strikes on Russian oil refineries during a meeting with a Ukrainian delegation in Miami, Florida, Le Monde reported this, citing a source.
"Accept this diesel fuel deal and stop shelling Russian oil refineries, you are putting the world at risk!" the newspaper quoted Witkoff as saying.
According to the newspaper, the discussion led to a confrontation between Witkoff and Budanov. Budanov had difficulty controlling his anger, Le Monde wrote.
Another source said the meeting had taken a wrong turn from the outset, as Witkoff and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner began discussing the postwar world order, pledging to restore Russian gas and oil pipelines to Europe. The diesel deal between the United States and Russia, announced later, dealt an even heavier blow to the Ukrainian delegation, the newspaper reported. "I have never seen them so distressed and concerned," the source said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a phone call on October 9, during which they discussed, among other things, petroleum product supplies. The Russian president said that Moscow had reiterated its readiness to supply oil and petroleum products to the United States and global markets.
