BELGRADE, October 25. /TASS/. Voter turnout at Serbia’s snap parliamentary elections reached 51.9% at 3:00 p.m. local time (2:00 p.m. GMT), the Informer portal reported, citing data from the ruling Serbian Progressive Party.

Voter turnout by this time of the day during the previous elections in 2023 was 36.7%. A TASS correspondent reported earlier that people were queueing to polling stations in Belgrade.

The Republic Electoral Commission (REC) has registered 6,451,292 voters who will elect 250 lawmakers to serve four-year terms.

Polling stations opened at 7:00 a.m. local time (6:00 a.m. GMT) and close at 8:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. GMT). According to the REC, more than 16,000 observers, including 622 foreign observers, will monitor the voting process.

The ballots will feature 18 electoral lists. The main contenders are expected to be the United Serbia list of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, led by Aleksandar Vucic, who stepped down as the country’s president on September 27, and the Student List coalition. The latter grew out of a protest movement that erupted in Serbia following the tragedy in Novi Sad in November 2024, when 16 people died when a concrete canopy at the train station collapsed.
