According to US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mike Waltz, Washington will also seek to eliminate Iran’s existing stockpile of highly enriched nuclear material

LONDON, October 23. /TASS/. The United States will continue its war with Iran until a "meaningful" agreement on Iran’s nuclear program is reached, US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mike Waltz said in an interview with the Financial Times (FT).

According to the diplomat, "the [US] president and the US Navy can maintain this blockade [on Iranian ports] for the foreseeable future," while the administration is increasing economic pressure on Iran through sanctions until a meaningful agreement on domestic uranium enrichment is reached.

Washington will also seek to eliminate Iran’s existing stockpile of highly enriched nuclear material. Waltz said the conflict could remain unresolved even a year from now, though he expressed hope that Iran would "come to the table in a meaningful way" sooner.

The FT also reported that US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are currently discussing the resumption of offensive operations against Iran after the US midterm elections to Congress, scheduled for November 3. The war is unpopular among the US public because of its economic consequences, particularly a significant rise in prices. Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 31%, and the Republican Party risks losing to the Democrats.
