US moving troops closer to Iran in anticipation of new confrontation — news portal
According to an unnamed US official, Donald Trump called off operations against Iran and Yemen’s Ansar Allah rebel movement, the Houthis, on seven occasions, "at the last minute"
NEW YORK, October 22. /TASS/. The Pentagon is actively redeploying forces closer to the Iranian border, awaiting US President Donald Trump’s green light for a new operation, the news portal Drop Site News reported, citing sources.
"CENTCOM (the US Central Command - TASS) is putting all the pieces into place to renew major combat operations," an unnamed US official said.
The official added that Trump had called off operations against Iran and Yemen’s Ansar Allah rebel movement, the Houthis, on seven occasions, "at the last minute." The source also told the news portal that the US had launched Operation Epic Fury against Iran "without all assets in place."
The United States and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, in the early morning hours of July 8, the US resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, accusing it of violating the terms of the agreements reached on the Strait of Hormuz. Later, the US administration effectively indicated that it was halting large-scale military action against Iran and pursuing economic strangulation through stricter sanctions.
