Russia-China-US summit to link Ukrainian settlement to new world order — expert
Professor of Political Science at the University of Rhode Island Nicolai N. Petro said that if the meeting takes place, "it will be worth speculating about what it might accomplish and about comparisons to the Yalta Conference of February 1945"
WASHINGTON, October 22. /TASS/. A trilateral meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia, Xi Jinping of China, and Donald Trump of the United States could indicate attempts to link the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict with the formation of a new world order, Nicolai N. Petro, Professor of Political Science at the University of Rhode Island, told TASS.
"If there is a three-way summit between Trump, Xi, and Putin, then it will be worth speculating about what it might accomplish and about comparisons to the Yalta Conference of February 1945. At that point it might be fair to say that peace efforts are gaining momentum because such a meeting suggests an effort to anchor the resolution of the Ukraine conflict within a new world order," said Petro, who specializes in Russia and Ukraine.
"It is too early to say anything yet," he noted when asked whether it is right to say that diplomatic efforts toward settling the conflict are being stepped up.
Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov told Vesti earlier that everyone is interested in organizing a trilateral meeting between Putin, Xi, and Trump on the sidelines of the APEC summit.
