Witkoff thanks Putin on behalf of Trump for diesel deal
The US special presidential envoy said that the decision on diesel fuel was another example of what Russia and the United States can achieve by working together
ST. PETERSBURG, October 21. /TASS/. Special US envoy Steve Witkoff has thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for the diesel deal that will bring Russian diesel fuel to world markets on behalf of US President Donald Trump.
"Your decision to remove export controls on diesel oil from Russia and to sell not just to the United States but also to the world at large in the midst of this economic shock, I think that was a really important act on your part, sir. And I know the president is deeply grateful for it, as are our farmers and other truckers who use diesel and have been adversely affected by this diesel crisis, and people all over the world," he said.
Witkoff said that the decision on diesel fuel was another example of what Russia and the United States can achieve by working together.
The Washington administration is removing Russian diesel fuel supplies to world markets from US sanctions until April 7, 2027. On October 9, Putin and Trump discussed petroleum products supplies over the phone. Later Putin confirmed Moscow's readiness to supply oil and oil products to the American and global markets. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak previously told TASS that Russia was beginning to lift the diesel exports ban earlier than planned, and was ready to supply 300,000 tons of diesel in October, 500,000 tons in November, 1 million tons in December and in the future to increase this volume to 3 million tons per month.
