Trump vows ‘very good decision’ on anti-Russian sanctions
According to the US president, the decision will benefit the entire world
WASHINGTON, October 18. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump has stated that he intends to make a "very good decision" regarding anti-Russian sanctions, one that will benefit the entire world.
"A lot of you don't know what my decision is yet, but we'll figure it out, and you'll figure it out. It's a very good decision, and it's going to be a decision that's good for the country, and I think good for the world because we're really at a world stage," Trump told reporters at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, according to the White House press pool.
Earlier on Saturday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Trump set a 60-day window to evaluate the potential consequences of imposing sanctions on Russia, as well as the associated tariffs on other nations, including the impact on both the U.S. and global economies. According to Rubio, this additional analysis is prompted by the current volatility in global energy markets.
Previously, Trump signed an executive order suspending the application of the anti-Russian measures stipulated by the new law, pending further instructions from the president or the secretary of state. On September 18, Trump signed a bill passed by Congress that mandates tougher sanctions against Russia’s top political and military leadership, as well as state-owned enterprises. The legislation includes provisions for a 500% increase in tariffs on imports from Russia, and a 100% increase on imports from countries that are major purchasers of Russian energy. Under the terms of the law, the U.S. administration may opt not to implement these measures if it deems them contrary to the national interests of the United States.
