Top Cuban diplomat accuses Rubio of pressuring countries ahead of UN vote
The US official "seeks to use a smokescreen to conceal the collective punishment" of the Cuban people, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla says
HAVANA, October 15. /TASS/. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla has accused US Secretary of State Marco Rubio of pressuring countries ahead of the upcoming UN vote on the need to lift Washington’s trade and economic blockade against the Caribbean republic.
"The US Secretary of State, nervous and anxious about the prospect of another defeat at the UN, is exerting pressure and resorting to blackmail against the heads of state and government of a number of countries in an attempt to get them to change their position during the vote at the UN General Assembly on the blockade," he wrote on X.
"Through constant lies and new measures, he seeks to use a smokescreen to conceal the collective punishment he is inflicting on the Cuban people, while at the same time attempting to make the rest of the international community complicit in this barbarity," he stressed.
Another voting on the issue of lifting the trade and financial blockade of Cuba the United States has been enforcing for nearly 70 year will take place at the UN General Assembly on October 24. Russia, like the majority of world nations, traditionally supports Cuba in its demand to lift blockade.
