UN, October 14. /TASS/. The UN Security Council will hold an informal Arria-formula meeting at Russia’s initiative on October 14, focused on human rights violations in Ukraine, according to the Security Council’s work program.

The meeting is titled "Piercing the Blind Spots of Violations of International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law in the Context of the Ukrainian Crisis."

The Arria-formula meetings provide interested council members an opportunity to engage in a direct dialogue with high representatives of governments and international organizations, as well as non-state parties, on matters with which they are concerned and which fall within the purview of responsibility of the Security Council. The process is named after Ambassador Diego Arria of Venezuela, who initiated the practice in 1992. The format suggests the participation of all members of the Security Council.
