Fresh sanctions give US companies 180 days to wind down their business with ICC
The 180-day maintenance GL is intended to "provide time for states parties to demonstrate meaningful progress on diplomatic and legal resolutions that address fundamental US concerns regarding the ICC," the Department of State explained
WASHINGTON, October 9. /TASS/. The administration of US President Donald Trump has issued a 180-day general license (GL) authorizing certain activity involving the International Criminal Court (ICC) on which it imposed sweeping sanctions on Friday, according to the fact sheet released by the US Department of State.
Among other things, the aforementioned GL authorizes the activity for the maintenance of the ICC’s operations, the fact sheet reads. Other general licenses authorize transactions related to the ICC detainees and IT services.
The 180-day maintenance GL is intended to "provide time for states parties to demonstrate meaningful progress on diplomatic and legal resolutions that address fundamental US concerns regarding the ICC," the Department of State explained. According to it, "this GL can be adjusted in response to the success or failure of such efforts to address our concerns."
