Yemeni army recaptures strategically important area in country’s southwest from Houthis
According to the statement, the government forces have established full control over the front line in the Kahbub area
DOHA, October 8. /TASS/. Yemeni government forces have regained control of the strategically important mountainous area of Kahbub, located near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the Dar al-Watan ("Shield of the Homeland") unit said in a statement posted on its X account.
"The Dar al-Watan forces, the Amalika ("Giants Brigades") and the joint forces [of the Saudi-led coalition] have established full control over the front line in the Kahbub area as part of Operation Yemen’s Dawn," the statement said.
The armed confrontation between government forces and Houthi rebels has been continuing in Yemen since August 2014. The situation deteriorated dramatically this summer. In early August 2026, Ansar Allah launched an offensive in the country’s southwest and took control of the port city of Mokha and territories along the Bab al-Mandeb Strait in western Yemen on September 10-11. Government forces mounted several counterattacks near the strait in the following days. On October 4, government forces began a large-scale military operation to regain control of the country and regained control over Dhubab on October 5.
