Interior Minister Martynas Katelynas called the deployment of the army a preventive measure
VILNIUS, October 7. /TASS/. Lithuania’s Interior Ministry plans to deploy army units to reinforce security along the border with Russia’s Kaliningrad Region, Interior Minister Martynas Katelynas wrote on his Facebook page (banned in Russia; owned by Meta, which is designated as extremist in Russia).
Katelynas said he had asked Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas to deploy the armed forces to help border guards protect the border with the Kaliningrad Region.
The interior minister stressed that the situation on the Lithuanian-Russian border is calm and called the deployment of the army a preventive measure.
Katelynas explained that the decision was made in view of the overall situation in the region.
