Bringing Ukraine into NATO not on agenda — Rubio
The US Secretary of State added that Washington is now focused on ending the Ukrainian conflict
WASHINGTON, October 6. /TASS/. Ukraine's membership in NATO is not currently being discussed, because Washington is focused on resolving the Ukrainian conflict, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.
"There’s no yes or no answer to that question," Rubio said when asked by a journalist if Ukraine should be a NATO member. "Right now, NATO membership as you know is not on the table, as we speak, because there’s obviously a consensus process that has to happen in order for that unanimity process that has to happen. Now we simply focus when it comes to Ukraine on the ending of this conflict if that’s possible."
He added that the United States wants to play a "constructive role" in the settlement.
"We’re obviously watching the trendlines there and seeing that’s not the direction that it’s headed right now (settlement - TASS)," the US Secretary of State added.
