TOKYO, October 2. /TASS/. Japan introduces a package of sanctions against Russian companies and individuals, according to the released government document seen by TASS.

Introduced sanctions

- Japan introduces a package of sanctions against Russian companies and individuals.

- Sanction lists comprise VNIIR-Progress CEO Vladislav Kostin, Rostec Deputy CEO Dmitry Lelikov, Rostec top manager Vasily Brovko, and six other people.

- Restrictive measures were taken against Voentorg, VNIIR-Progress, Alabuga Development, Alabuga Machinery, Uralvagonzavod, and 28 more companies and organizations.

- Four companies from Turkey and the UAE were also included into special designation lists.

- Restrictive measures were for the first time introduced in respect of 35 ships that may be associated with Moscow, in the opinion of Tokyo.

Sanction preparation reports

- Japanese authorities are considering an opportunity of introducing the next package of sanctions against Russia, Yomiuri newspaper reported earlier, citing sources in the government.

- EU countries are intensifying sanction pressure on Moscow and it is not excluded that Japan will side with them.

- According to the sources, sanctions may affect the so-called "shadow fleet," expand sanction restrictions, and toughen export control.

- Sanctions are linked at the same time with the trip of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Iturup Island, which had a sharp reaction in Tokyo.

- Japan is not exploring new sanctions against Russia and the case in point is only to extend current restrictions, Member of the upper house of the Japanese parliament from the Liberal Democratic Party Muneo Suzuki told TASS earlier.

Previous sanctions

- Japanese authorities introduced several sanction packages against Russia, which led to a significant curtailment of bilateral ties.

- The government of Japan introduced sanctions against Russia last time on September 12, 2025, under the former administration.
