Xie Feng expressed confidence that Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States "expanded the scope for cooperation"

WASHINGTON, October 1. /TASS/. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the United States on September 23-25 set the direction for the further development of bilateral relations, Chinese Ambassador to Washington Xie Feng said.

"This visit set the course for China-US relations. Head-of-state diplomacy serves as the anchor of bilateral relations," he said at a reception marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. In the diplomat’s view, "personal ties and in-depth dialogue" between Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump "helped keep China-US relations on the right track at critical junctures." Xie Feng added that relations between the two countries "continue to strengthen and steadily develop."

The ambassador also expressed confidence that Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States "expanded the scope for cooperation." "Our economic and trade negotiating teams reached new mutually beneficial agreements," he said. Among them, the diplomat mentioned the establishment of a bilateral working group on agricultural supplies and agreements on the terms for China’s imports of US coal.

"The two sides also agreed to fully tap the potential of China-US dialogue on artificial intelligence (AI), establish a bilateral communication channel for AI-related incidents, and work together to curb the improper use and abuse of AI," Xie Feng stressed.
