Damascus expects US to lift all remaining Syria sanctions
Earlier, Asaad al-Shaibani, foreign minister in the transitional government, stressed that Damascus expected a strategic partnership with Washington to deepen
BEIRUT, August 25. /TASS/. Syria's transitional government has welcomed the decision by the US State Department and Treasury Department to remove the Arab republic from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
"This step marks a significant shift in international relations and creates appropriate conditions for the country's reconstruction and for strengthening security and stability across the region. We expect the United States to lift all remaining restrictions imposed against Damascus," the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Earlier, Asaad al-Shaibani, foreign minister in the transitional government, wrote on X that Damascus expected a strategic partnership with Washington to deepen. "We hope that this step will be followed by lifting all restrictions that hinder Syria's reconstruction and its return to its natural role in the Arab and international arenas," he said.
On August 24, the US Treasury Department said that Syria had been removed from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, in line with US President Donald Trump's pledge to ease sanctions on Damascus. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which is banned in Russia, was also removed from the list of terrorist organizations.
