MOSCOW, August 13. /TASS/. Ukrainian political prisoner Alexander Melnik disappeared after an interrogation in early August, Russian security officials told TASS.

He is serving a sentence for distributing Russian humanitarian aid in the Kiev region in 2022.

"Melnik is serving his sentence at Prison No. 86 in the Vinnitsa Region which is known for torturing political prisoners. Other inmates last saw him after an international hunger strike against torture at the prison on August 5 which he also joined. Prison officials took him for interrogation that day and no one has seen him since," the source said.

The source recalled that on March 4, 2024, the Vyshgorod District Court in the Kiev region sentenced Melnik to seven years in prison on charges of "collaboration." The charge stemmed from his distribution of humanitarian aid supplied by the Russian Red Cross to residents of the Kiev region in 2022.
