NEW YORK, August 10. /TASS/. CNN reported that the conflict with Iran and the deteriorating economic sentiment in the United States could serve as a double-edged sword for Donald Trump, hurting the GOP in this November's midterm Congressional elections as well as his standing as president.

According to the channel, Trump has brought relations with Iran to their lowest level since the Carter era, as Tehran can now exert political pressure on Washington. Rising gas prices - a consequence of the conflict - are worsening Americans’ perception of the state of the economy, while weak employment doesn't help the Republicans either.

CNN says that Trump’s comments about golf, the renovation of the White House, and other projects may reinforce the impression that he is detached from how the economy is affecting real Americans.

The TV channel also draws attention to the Trump administration’s foreign policy difficulties. For instance, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the proposed plan to disarm Hamas in the Gaza Strip, while Iran put forward new conditions to resume shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
