ISTANBUL, August 7. /TASS/. The conclusion of a defense and security cooperation agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan reflects the need to find new mechanisms for ensuring regional security amid the changing geopolitical situation, Murat Aslan, an expert at the leading Turkish think tank SETA Foundation (Foundation for Political, Economic, and Social Research) has said.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan officially signed a trilateral defense agreement, establishing a mutual defense commitment whereby an attack on any one of the signatory nations will be regarded as an attack on all three. According to Al Arabiya, the agreement aims to bolster collective deterrence against any potential aggression.

The deal, known as the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, was signed by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, marking a significant step in regional security cooperation.

"The growing defense cooperation by Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan reflects a broader search for new regional security arrangements amid a changing geopolitical landscape. The partnership is expected to expand defense industrial cooperation, strengthen deterrence, and improve security coordination, while Turkey's NATO membership, its growing defense capabilities, and its strategic position will strengthen the country's role as a key regional security partner," Aslan wrote on social media X.
