NEW YORK, August 6. /TASS/. The delegations of Israel and Lebanon may resume talks in Rome on Thursday following another round of escalation, the Associated Press reported, citing sources in the US Department of State.

One source said that the previous round of negotiations had been very productive.

Earlier, the sides suspended the talks, citing developments on the ground. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Hezbollah fighters had violated the ceasefire on Wednesday by attacking Israeli troops. According to the IDF, two Israeli service members were killed and four others were wounded in southern Lebanon. In response, the Israeli military carried out strikes on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.

On June 26, Lebanon and Israel signed a US-brokered framework agreement after five rounds of talks. Under the agreement, the Lebanese armed forces are to "restore effective sovereign authority over all Lebanese territory." The accord also provides for the establishment of "pilot zones" from which Israeli troops will gradually withdraw.
