BRUSSELS, July 28. /TASS/. The European External Action Service (EEAS) has summoned the acting Russian charge d’affaires in the European Union, including as part of the bloc’s response to incidents involving drones in the Romanian airspace, European Commission spokesperson Anouar El Anouni said at a news briefing in Brussels on Tuesday.

"We have today summoned the Russian charge d’affaires in the EEAS," he said.

Earlier, the Romanian Foreign Ministry said it had summoned the Russian ambassador in connection with what it called "repeated violations of Romania’s airspace between July 24 and 26, 2026, when the Romanian army shot down three drones that had entered the national territory without permission." The Romanian side handed him a verbal note demanding that one of the Russian diplomats should leave the southeastern European country within five days. Romania has also recalled its ambassador from Moscow to Bucharest for consultations.

Moscow will give a due answer to the expulsion of a Russian embassy employee from Romania, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told TASS earlier.
