TEHRAN, July 3. /TASS/. Iranian authorities have decided to close Tehran's airspace on July 6 due to a large-scale funeral procession through the city's main streets honoring the Islamic Republic's late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the head of Iran's Civil Aviation Organization, Abouzar Shiroudi, announced.
"On Monday, the day of the public farewell to the fallen Supreme Leader of the Revolution, Tehran's airspace will be completely closed, and no flights will operate," Iran's state broadcaster quoted him as saying.
The farewell ceremony for Khamenei, who was killed in US and Israeli strikes, began earlier in Tehran. On Friday, high-level delegations from at least 100 countries are expected to attend the mourning ceremony. From July 4 to 5, the ayatollah's body will lie in state at the Mosalla of Tehran, the Iranian capital's largest religious and public complex, where members of the public will be able to pay their respects. On July 6, a funeral procession will pass through Tehran's main streets before the body is taken to the country's main religious center, the city of Qom, where additional mourning ceremonies will be held on July 7. On July 8, Ali Khamenei's body will be taken to neighboring Iraq, where separate memorial ceremonies for local Shia Muslims will be held in Karbala and Najaf. He is scheduled to be buried on July 9 in his hometown of Mashhad.
