Trump says Iran making 'very big concessions' to US
The US leader made brief comments to reporters at the Capitol
WASHINGTON, June 24. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump said Iran is making "very big concessions" in its negotiations with the United States.
"Iran is making very big concessions. We'll see what happens," the US leader told reporters during a brief exchange at the Capitol.
Trump arrived on Capitol Hill to meet with Republican Senate leaders, with discussions focused primarily on preparations for the upcoming midterm elections in November.
Earlier this month, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. On June 21-22, US-Iran talks on implementing the memorandum took place at the Swiss resort of Burgenstock, with mediation from Doha and Islamabad.
According to a joint statement issued by Pakistan and Qatar after the first round of negotiations, the meeting between Iranian and US representatives took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere. The parties made encouraging progress, including laying the groundwork for further technical consultations.
