Pakistani army chief says Iran, US close to striking deal — Chinese foreign ministry
Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir pledged that Islamabad is sparing no effort to get a deal done between Tehran and Washington
BEIJING, May 25. /TASS/. Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir said at a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing that Iran and the United States may soon reach an agreement, the Chinese foreign ministry said.
"Munir informed the Chinese side about the recent developments as part of [Pakistan’s] mediatory efforts toward settling the conflict between Iran and the United States. In his words, the sides are close to an agreement," the ministry said.
Munir pledged that Islamabad is sparing no effort to get a deal done between Tehran and Washington and expressed hope that China will continue playing a positive role in this direction.
The top Chinese diplomat, in turn, noted that Pakistan is a "reliable mediator that deserves trust from all the sides" and China highly assesses and supports Pakistan’s efforts.
"Peace, though hard-won, will eventually come," Wang stressed.
