According to China’s top diplomat, the two sides "reached broadly balanced and positive results, including in further implementation of all agreements reached during previous consultations"
BEIJING, May 15. /TASS/. Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, discussed in detail trade and economic cooperation during the latter’s visit to China, Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi said.
"The two heads of state discussed in detail Chinese-American trade and economic relations, outlined directions of cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and the United States in this sphere, and ensured its stability," the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted Wang as saying on its website.
Xi highlighted "the essence of Chinese-American trade and economic relations that lies in mutual benefit and shared prosperity" at the summit with Trump. "Negotiations on an equal basis" are the only right choice in case of disagreement, the Chinese leader emphasized.
According to China’s top diplomat, at the summit, the two sides "reached broadly balanced and positive results, including in further implementation of all agreements reached during previous consultations." Among other things, they reached consensus on establishing a council on trade and a council on investment, and resolving issues of concern to both sides, including the provision of access to agricultural markets and efforts to increase bilateral trade with a mutual lowering of tariffs.
Working government groups of the two countries have continued consultations on corresponding issues "to build on the results and jointly provide for their practical implementation," China’s top diplomat confirmed.
