BUCHAREST, May 15. /TASS/. Romanian President Nicusor Dan has announced that Bucharest will sign an agreement with Kiev on the joint production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) within the next one to three months. The announcement was made during his visit to the Black Sea Defense and Aerospace (BSDA-2026) international aviation and defense industry exhibition in Bucharest. A transcript of his conversation with journalists is available on the presidential administration’s website.

When asked about the timing of the agreement, Dan provided a twofold response. He explained that the first component involves incorporating UAV production into Romania through the EU’s military lending program, SAFE. This component is expected to be financed via SAFE and is slated for signing by May 31.

The second aspect pertains to a broader cooperation framework with Ukraine on drone technology, including counter-UAV systems. Dan indicated that discussions on this front have only recently begun and that a technical process is currently underway, which he expects to conclude within one to three months.

Notably, in March, Dan and Vladimir Zelensky signed a strategic partnership agreement in Bucharest. This pact encompasses various areas of cooperation, including joint defense material production and energy collaboration. One of the documents formalized during this visit specifically addresses the joint production of drones in Romania.
