Abbas Araghchi pointed to the Iranian authorities' efforts to maintain a ceasefire with the US in order to resolve the conflict diplomatically

NEW DELHI, May 15. /TASS/. Tehran is ready to discuss Moscow’s proposal for the transfer of Iran’s enriched uranium to Russia but at a later stage, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said at a press conference in New Delhi.

He pointed to the Iranian authorities' efforts to maintain a ceasefire with the US in order to resolve the conflict diplomatically.

TASS has compiled the main points from the top diplomat’s remarks.

Russia’s proposal on enriched uranium

Tehran is ready to discuss Moscow’s proposal for the transfer of enriched uranium to Russia but at a later stage: "When we come to that stage, obviously, we will have more consultations with Russia, and we’ll see if the Russian offer can help or not; this is not something for the time being."

Tehran is grateful to Moscow for offering assistance in the transfer of Iran’s enriched uranium to Russia: "We are thankful to our Russian friends for their offer and for their intention to help resolve this problem."

Peaceful nuclear program

Iran’s nuclear program is purely peaceful: "Iran has never wanted a nuclear weapon. <...> We have said time and again that we don’t want a nuclear weapon. <...> We have a peaceful nuclear program."

Attempts to derail talks with US

Some counties are trying to derail talks between Tehran and Washington and drag the US into war: "I hope that wisdom and diplomacy will finally prevail and we go in line of diplomacy to find a negotiated solution."

The Iranian authorities seek to maintain a ceasefire with the US in order to be able to resolve the conflict through diplomatic means: "We are now in a state of ceasefire, although it’s very shaky. But we are trying to keep it in order to give diplomacy a chance."

Iran is ready for any scenario: "We either return to the battlefield and resume the war, or go back to the negotiating table, hold talks and choose the path of diplomacy. It makes no difference to us. Everything depends on what the opposite side chooses."

Settlement proposals

Tehran received a message from Washington about the US being willing to continue talks after US President Donald Trump said that Iran’s settlement proposal was unacceptable: "What was said that the United States rejected Iran’s proposal or Iran’s response to the American proposal was a few days ago, when Mr Trump tweeted and said that it was unacceptable. But after that, we received messages again from the Americans saying that they are willing to continue the talks."

Tehran and Washington have postponed discussion of the enriched uranium issue due to its complexity: "The subject of our enriched material is a very complicated one. We have now come to the conclusion with the Americans that since it is very difficult and we are almost in a deadlock on this particular question, let’s postpone it to the later stages of our negotiations."
