US strikes on Iran prompt strong opposition from many nations — Chinese experts
Deputy director of the China Institute of International Studies Dong Manyuan pointed out that "despite signs of war fatigue on both sides, reaching an agreement on core issues still appears to take time, and neither party has yet reached the point of making final concessions"
BEIJING, April 29. /TASS/. The US-Israel military operation against Iran has prompted "strong opposition from many nations," Dong Manyuan, deputy director of the China Institute of International Studies, said.
"The repeated disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz have forced the world to bear the cost of irresponsible US actions. What initially drew discontent from some countries has now evolved into a broader international issue," the Global Times newspaper quoted him as saying.
According to the expert, it is unclear whether the situation will ease and "fluctuations are likely."
The analyst pointed out that "despite signs of war fatigue on both sides, reaching an agreement on core issues still appears to take time, and neither party has yet reached the point of making final concessions."
"A closer look at the details shows Iran has not abandoned its preconditions; rather, it has postponed the talks on the nuclear issue, which in turn highlights the Strait of Hormuz as the key point of contention," Dong noted.
After the armed conflict broke out, Iran’s authorities decided to close the Strait of Hormuz to ships associated with the US, Israel and the countries that supported aggression against Tehran. A number of tankers were attacked in the area in the past two months for trying to pass through the waterway without Iran’s permission. On March 25, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that the country was granting passage through the Strait of Hormuz to vessels from friendly countries, including Russia, India, Iraq, China and Pakistan.
