Iran in constant communication with Russia, China, grateful for their stance — MFA
Iran thanks Russia and China for their responsible stance in blocking the adoption of a resolution on the Strait of Hormuz, Esmaeil Baghaei said
TEHRAN, April 20. /TASS/. Tehran maintains constant dialogue with Moscow and Beijing and thanks them for their responsible stance on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said.
"We thank Russia and China for their responsible stance in blocking the adoption of a resolution [on the Strait of Hormuz] that runs counter to peace, and we are in constant communication with these two countries," he said at a press conference in Tehran.
On April 7, a vote in the UN Security Council failed to pass a resolution on the Strait of Hormuz drafted by Bahrain. The document received the required number of votes, but Russia and China blocked its adoption as permanent members of the Security Council. Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, said that, if adopted, the resolution would have set a dangerous precedent for international law and given carte blanche to continue aggression against Iran. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also said earlier that the draft resolution proposed by Bahrain does little to promote a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
