Pope Leo XIV disagrees with Pentagon chief’s comments on US fighting in name of Jesus
The pontiff said domination is "entirely foreign to the way of Jesus Christ"
ROME, April 4. /TASS/. Pope Leo XIV said domination is "entirely foreign to the way of Jesus Christ" following calls by Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth to pray for the victory of American troops "in the name of Jesus Christ."
"We know that throughout history, mission has not infrequently been distorted by a desire for domination, entirely foreign to the way of Jesus Christ <...> Consequently, it is now a priority to remember that neither in the pastoral sphere nor in the social and political spheres can good come from abuse of power," Leo XIV said during a mass.
Earlier, Hegseth urged the American people to pray for the victory and safety of the US military. "Every day, on bended knee, with your family, in your schools, in your churches, in the name of Jesus Christ," the Pentagon chief said.
