White House proposes cutting non-defense US budget spending by 10% in 2027
The administration also proposed increasing defense spending next year to $1.5 trillion
WASHINGTON, April 3. /TASS/. The US administration has proposed cutting non-defense federal budget spending for fiscal year 2027 by 10%, according to White House briefing materials released in connection with the submission of the draft budget for the next fiscal year to the US Congress.
According to the accompanying documents prepared by the executive branch, non-defense spending is expected to reduced by $73 bln, or by 10%.
At the same time, the administration proposed increasing defense spending next year to $1.5 trillion. This is $445 bln, or 42%, more than in the current fiscal year. Military spending includes, in particular, the procurement of 18 new ships for the US Navy, 16 support vessels, five ships for the US Army and the US Coast Guard, as well as one research vessel for Arctic studies under the National Science Foundation.
