NEW DELHI, April 3. /TASS/. Iran will ensure the safety of Indian vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi said on social media platform X.

"Our Indian friends are safe, do not worry. Only Iran and Oman will decide the future of the Strait of Hormuz," the diplomatic mission stated.

According to media reports, Iran earlier sent a proposal to Oman on joint monitoring of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz in order to ensure safe navigation. No information has been provided yet on Oman’s response to the Iranian proposal.

India is among the few countries whose oil and liquefied natural gas carriers Iran allows to pass through the Strait of Hormuz into the Indian Ocean. Tehran’s decision coincided with the resumption of energy cooperation between India and Iran after it was suspended in 2019 due to US sanctions.

According to Bloomberg, India purchased its first shipment of Iranian liquefied natural gas in March.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran, striking major Iranian cities, including Tehran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out a large-scale retaliatory operation targeting Israel. US bases in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE and Saudi Arabia were also hit.

On March 11, a representative of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said that Iran would not allow any oil cargoes linked to the United States and its allies to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for around one-fifth of global oil exports.
