Earlier, Min Aung Hlaing stepped down as commander-in-chief of Myanmar's armed forces, a position he had held since 2011.

Myanmar’s Assembly of the Union was formed following the three-stage parliamentary elections that took place in December and January. The Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) won the election, securing 339 out of the 664 seats in both chambers. According to the country’s constitution, 25% of the seats in parliament are reserved for the military.
