Argentina declares charge d'affaires of Iran persona non grata — Foreign Ministry
According to the ministry, the decision was made in response to a statement by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, in which Tehran condemned Buenos Aires for its decision to recognize the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization
BUENOS AIRES, April 2. /TASS/. Argentina has declared Iran's charge d'affaires in Buenos Aires persona non grata and ordered him to leave the country within 48 hours, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"The Foreign Ministry informs that Argentina has declared charge d'affaires of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohsen Soltani Tehrani persona non grata in accordance with article 9 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961. He is obliged to leave the country within 48 hours," the text says.
According to the ministry, the decision was made in response to a statement by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, in which Tehran condemned Buenos Aires for its decision to recognize the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite army units) as a terrorist organization.
On March 30, the Office of Argentine President Javier Milei said his government had added the IRGC to the Public Register of Individuals and Legal Entities Associated with Terrorist Activities and their Financing. The Iranian Foreign Ministry called this decision unjustified and contradicting international law. According to Tehran, Buenos Aires took this step "under the influence of propaganda and pressure from the Zionist regime and the United States.".
