Iranian MFA confirms US uses PrSM missile with tungsten pellets in strike on sports hall
"This is a despicable war crime," Esmaeil Baghaei said
TEHRAN, April 2. /TASS/. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei called the US strike on the sports hall in the southern Iranian city of Lamerd on February 28 a war crime, saying Washington used a Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) filled with tungsten pellets.
"The American new PrSM missile, which made its combat debut on February 28, 2026, struck a crowded sports hall filled with innocent teenagers in the city of Lamerd, Fars Province. The attack killed 21 young boys and girls. The missile explodes above its target, dispersing thousands of lethal fragments (tungsten pellets) to maximize human casualties. This is a despicable war crime," the diplomat wrote on X.
On March 30, The New York Times reported that the US military used a newly developed short-range ballistic missile, the PrSM, to strike the city of Lamerd. The US-made ballistic missile was used in an attack that struck a sports hall and adjacent elementary school, killing 21 people and injuring 100 others. As US military experts noted, PrSM submunitions are equipped with a warhead containing tungsten pellets and detonate before impact to inflict maximum damage.
