Reza Najafi emphasized that even in wartime, it remained illegal to strike targets used by the civilian population

PARIS, April 2. /TASS/. The US and Israeli strikes on the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran violate international law and can be classified as a war crime, Reza Najafi, the Islamic Republic’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, said.

"This is a clear violation of international rules and humanitarian law," he said in an interview with Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Najafi added that even in wartime, it remains illegal to strike targets used by the civilian population. "Such an attack constitutes an extremely serious crime, a crime against humanity, and a war crime," he said, warning that if radioactive materials are leaked, that would lead to contamination of the water supply and other resources.
