NEW YORK, April 2. /TASS/. The armed conflict with Iran has turned into a diplomatic disaster for US President Donald Trump, Bloomberg reports.

According to the agency, "while the war may have achieved some US military and strategic goals, it has broadly appeared to be a diplomatic disaster for Trump: it has strained ties with key European allies, exposed wealthy Gulf monarchies to deadly Iranian drone and missile attacks, and raised food, fertilizer and fuel prices in Europe and poorer countries across Asia."

Furthermore, the US military has depleted its stockpiles of expensive and hard-to-replace missiles and air defense interceptors that could have been sent to Ukraine and Taiwan or used by the US against stronger adversaries, such as Russia and China. The agency notes that even if the American leader does manage to end the conflict in two or three weeks, as he promised in his address to his fellow citizens, the confrontation with Iran has already left an indelible mark on his administration’s economic policy and threatens his political position.

The United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran on February 28. Major Iranian cities, including Tehran, were struck. The White House justified the attack by citing alleged missile and nuclear threats from Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced a retaliatory operation, targeting sites in Israel. US targets in Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Syria were also hit. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and some other key Iranian leaders were killed in the joint US-Israeli attack.
