Iran refuses cycle of talks with US followed by conflict — Foreign Ministry
"This is a catastrophe not only for Iran but for the entire region and beyond," Esmaeil Baghaei pointed out
TEHRAN, April 2. /TASS/. Iran has already negotiated with the United States only for those talks to end in aggression against the Islamic Republic, and it does not want that situation to repeat, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said.
"We will not tolerate this vicious cycle - war, negotiations, truce, then the same pattern again. This is a catastrophe not only for Iran but for the entire region and beyond," the Iranian state television and radio broadcasting corporation quoted him as saying.
Iran held indirect talks with the US through intermediaries in April-May 2025 to resolve its nuclear program and sanctions relief. In June, Israel attacked Iran, and US bombers struck its nuclear facilities. A ceasefire was reached 12 days later.
Tehran and Washington resumed indirect negotiations in 2026, with the latest round held in Geneva on February 26, and the sides expecting further talks in Vienna in March. However, on February 28, the US and Israel launched aggression against Iran, which continues.
