YEREVAN, March 7. /TASS/. The Armenian Foreign Ministry has said that citizens of 41 countries, including Russia, have been evacuated from Iranian territory via the Armenian-Iranian border since the onset of the crisis in the region.

"Between February 28 and March 6, citizens of 41 countries were evacuated from Iran via Armenia," Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Ani Badalyan wrote on her Facebook page (banned in Russia, owned by the Meta corporation, designated as extremist in Russia).

The tourists left Iran through the Agarak checkpoint on the Armenian-Iranian border. However, Badalyan did not specify how many people crossed the Armenian-Iranian border during this period. Earlier, the Russian embassy in Armenia reported that as of March 3, 31 citizens had returned to Russia from Iran through Armenia.

On February 28, the US and Israel launched a military operation against Iran. Major Iranian cities, including Tehran, were hit. The White House justified the attack by citing missile and nuclear threats allegedly emanating from Tehran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced a large-scale retaliatory operation, attacking targets in Israel. US targets in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia were also hit. The strikes on Iran killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several other key figures in the Islamic Republic's leadership.
