LONDON, March 4. /TASS/. The Iranian frigate IRIS Dena, which sank off the coast of Sri Lanka, was attacked by a US Navy submarine, Reuters reported, citing three anonymous US officials.
According to Sri Lanka’s Daily Mirror newspaper, around 180 people were aboard the vessel. Reuters reported that 79 people were rescued, while more than 100 sailors remain missing. The IRIS Dena belongs to the Iranian Navy’s Southern Fleet. The ship recently took part in naval exercises in India.
