Iran attacks at least six US military bases in Middle East — NYT
Iran has targeted US bases in Bahrain, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait
NEW YORK, March 2. /TASS/. At least six American military bases and other sites in the Middle East were hit as a result of Iranian strikes, The New York Times reported, based on satellite images, video recordings, and statements from the US military at its disposal.
Iran has targeted US bases in Bahrain, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Kuwait. The newspaper notes that several buildings, including ones with satellite equipment, were severely damaged or fully destroyed. The targets included the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain, military bases in Iraq and Kuwait, as well as a port in Dubai, used by the US army. The NYT does not have information on casualties among American troops, but US authorities earlier reported the deaths of three servicemen.
On February 28, the US and Israel launched a large military operation against Iran. Major Iranian cities, including Tehran, have been hit. The White House justified the attack by citing alleged missile and nuclear threats from Iran. At the same time, the US leadership openly called on the Iranian people to oppose their own government and seize power. The Islamic Republic’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and some other key Iranian leaders were killed in the attacks. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, the Iranian Armed Forces’ elite unit) announced a retaliatory operation.
