MOSCOW, February 3. /TASS/. The situation in Venezuela is calm, the country’s Ambassador to Russia Jesus Salazar Velasquez said, adding that it is safe to visit the country.

"Security is guaranteed in Venezuela, the situation in the country is absolutely calm, I can say that for a fact," he said. "Those Russian friends who want to visit Venezuela, will be able to see this with their own eyes because there is peace and tranquility in the country."

According to the diplomat, several Russian tourists already visited Venezuela in mid-January and "had a great time there." Not a single major event has been cancelled in the country, he added.

On January 3, the United States attacked civilian and military facilities in Caracas. Trump confirmed the attack on Venezuela. He also said that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife had been captured and taken out of the country. On January 5, the couple appeared before the US Federal Court for the Southern District of New York, where they face charges of alleged involvement in drug trafficking. Both have pleaded not guilty. Vice President Delcy Rodriguez was sworn in as Venezuela’s authorized president on January 6. Meanwhile, Trump said that Washington would "run" Venezuela in the interim.
