Russia, China highlight significant risks to global strategic stability
BEIJING, February 3. /TASS/. During consultations held in Beijing on Tuesday, Chinese and Russian diplomats reaffirmed their commitment to advancing effective arms control worldwide, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
"Both sides emphasized that global strategic stability is under significant threat," the statement notes. "As permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and Russia will continue to enhance strategic coordination, resolutely support multilateralism, and actively uphold the authority and effectiveness of international arms control treaties and mechanisms. These efforts are vital to maintaining global strategic stability and bolstering international peace and security." The statement was released following discussions between Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Ryabkov.
The two parties reached broad consensus on these issues.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry indicated that Ryabkov also addressed strategic stability, arms control, and the prospects for partnership within BRICS during his visit to Beijing.
