Trump suggests GOP take control of voting to fight election fraud
The US leader said the Republicans should take over the voting in at least 15 US states
WASHINGTON, February 3. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump said the federal government should assume control of state voting to prevent election fraud.
"The Republicans should say, 'We want to take over. We should take over the voting in at least — many, 15 places.' The Republicans ought to nationalize the voting," the US leader told radio host Dan Bongino, who previously served as a deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Currently, Article 1 of the US Constitution vests powers to prescribe the times, places and manner of holding elections to Congress to the legislature in each state. As the US Supreme Court sees it, the governments in states assume control of the entire voting process, including voter registration, the fight against election fraud and the vote count.
Trump claims to have won the 2020 presidential election, protesting what he believes was a fraudulent vote count process.
