LONDON, January 30. /TASS/. Gulf countries, including Qatar, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates, are trying to prevent a new war between the US and Iran, the Financial Times reported.

According to the newspaper, Arab and Muslim states "have been engaging with both the US and Iran in a bid to de-escalate tensions" between the two countries. Specifically, they are trying to dissuade President Donald Trump from attacking Iran. These countries fear that such a move could "trigger a broader conflict in the Middle East and cause Tehran to target oil and gas facilities in the Gulf," the newspaper noted.

The Financial Times estimates that tensions between the two countries have intensified after Trump said that Tehran's time to reach a deal with Washington is running out. An unnamed diplomat told the newspaper that diplomatic "efforts are continuing, but there has been no breakthrough." According to the article, the negotiators have been joined by Swiss diplomats, who "have also sought to get involved in attempts to de-escalate between Washington" and Tehran.

Earlier, Trump said that a "massive armada" was heading toward Iran. He expressed hope that Tehran would sit down at the negotiating table and conclude a "fair and equitable" deal, implying a complete renunciation of nuclear weapons. The US leader recalled that, in June 2025, the US launched strikes on nuclear facilities in Iran under an operation codenamed Midnight Hammer. Trump warned that "the next attack will be far worse," urging "not to make that happen again."
